Africa Amini Alama started in July 2012 with the construction of an English primary school in one of the most remote Maasai areas in Northern Tanzania. Within one month, 130 children were learning with our teachers… in the premises of the church. They wanted to start, even when the school had not yet been built.

Since November 2012, these 130 children have been studying in the newly-built school: Africa Amini Alama had opened the first Medium English School in a Maasai area. The Secretary of State for Education came for the first time into Maasai land, to attend the opening ceremony – an event that will be remembered in the region’s history.

Hundreds of Maasai from the surrounding area attended the opening ceremony. It was a festival atmosphere for all the parents and children, who now have access to the highest-quality teaching. The government officials showed their appreciation, and they value the collaboration with Africa Amini Alama, not only in the medical domain, but also in education.

170 Maasai girls and boys are now attending school every day. With the support of “A Heart for Children”, a computer class was set up with special teaching computers and the children have a school bus and a school garden.

We will fundraise for additional classrooms and a house for the teachers. This is the only way we can create a fourth and fifth class in 2016.

Maasai children who are between 5 and 7 years old and who come from the poorest families have now their own school premises and will receive an education that is usually reserved for the elite in Tanzania – we are so happy for them!

Please help us to keep up the school: with a sponsorship of 30 Euro per month a Maasai child is not forced to take care of the goats, but can have a chance for a decent future!
