Traditional midwives visited our hospital!

23.October 2019

22 midwives from the surrounding areas came to see us at the maternity ward. They were informed about the need for prenatal examinations and received gloves as a gift so that they can work more hygienically in their villages.

It was also touching what our team could learn from them: We have been trying to explain to our midwifery team for a year how important it can be to have different birth positions when mothers are giving birth. The transfer of know-how is slowly beginning to pay off and children are now being born while their mothers are kneeling or squatting. And giving birth like this is so much easier.

I was therefore very surprising to me when the traditional midwives explained us that they hardly ever deliver babies while the mothers are lying down. What can be more convincing for our topic than to hear this from local wise women?
