VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHOOL FOR CARPENTERS, MASONS AND MECHANICS

In 2011, with the support of Dr Doppler, Africa Amini Alama built a teaching centre where we offer young people the chance to learn a trade and obtain a European standard qualifications as carpenters, masons and mechanics.

The training course, which lasts two years,  is undertaken after completion of primary school and attracts many apprentices from disadvantaged backgrounds.  In January 2012, we had 75 youngsters enrol for the first training course.

The course quickly became well known and earned high praise inside and outside the bounds of the local community.  The school which is managed by local African tutors, enables the apprentices to benefit from free tuition and during the application process, we prioritise applications from youngsters from very poor backgrounds.

Opportunities for farming in this region are limited so young adults need to acquire training and work opportunities in other disciplines.  We want to create jobs which allow our local communities to thrive.
