The “Driving Doctors” project is particularly close to our hearts...
We try to drive to remote Maasai areas and schools as often as our capacities allow in order to offer medical help on site. We want to treat diseases before they develop into serious illnesses and, above all, help weakened women and children for whom a two-day walk to the nearest clinic - Preventive Medical Clinic - would be insurmountable. When we arrive at the bomas - Maasai houses - there are often many patients already waiting under a tree in the shade and we know that there will not be enough time to treat them all by nighfall. So for the time being we treat acute cases and children first.
This means that we reach around 5,000 patients a year for whom the journey to the clinic would be too arduous. Many patients suffer from the consequences of malnutrition and their immune systems are very weakened as a result. Malaria is also one of the main diagnoses because the Maasai do not use mosquito nets. Many women and children have asthma or bronchitis because the dust and smoke from the open fires is very hard on the lungs. How grateful we are for every antibiotic or painkiller that is donated to us. But we also try to help ourselves with other methods, such as laser, Scenar or acupuncture, all simple instruments that can also be used well in the “bush”, and with great success. The help is sure to arrive where it is most urgently needed and where no one else can reach. We can promise you that...
Asante sana on behalf of the many patients who receive timely treatment.
