MAASAI WOMEN'S GROUPS

AFRICA AMINI MAASAI CHOIR

30 Maasai women and men from Ngabobo and Madebe have been practicing their singing skills for many years and are now regularly invited for celebrations in the Arusha region. Originally it was the joy of singing in church that brought them together, but now it has become much more than a regular get together. Their biggest wish is to be recorded in a sound studio, to facilitate a professional marketing of their wonderful songs and voices. Africa Amini Alama is helping them with this.

MAASAI ARTISAN GROUP IN MADEBE AND LEKURUMUNI

Maasai women have to be self-reliant, particularly when a drought threatens the northern Maasai steppe of Tanzania. When this happens, the men migrate with their herds into remote regions and leave their women and children behind without provisions.
We help with different projects to secure a basic income for these women but one of the principal areas of support which we can give is by purchasing the beautiful hand-crafted jewellery that they make.   The proceeds from these traditional Maasai earrings, necklaces and brooches ensure that these women have a basic income to feed their families all year round.

SOLAR WOMEN'S GROUP IN MADEBE AND TINGA TINGA

Thanks to a 700 euro loan from Africa Amini Alama, a group of 10 women now receive a regular income having put in place a commercial solar-charging project.  Having bought a solar panel, invertor and battery with the proceeds of the loan, they now provide a low-cost local mobile charging station to over 300 families in their community.   Mobile phones are an integral part of all our lives and these communities are no different.  However, now what would have been a 2-3 hour round trip to charge a phone, takes only minutes and provides a welcome source of regular income for this small group of women.
