09-08-22 - Our first permaculture seminar ...
... to help women plant their own vegetable gardens so they can be self-sufficient in the future.
The concept of permaculture is inspired by the ancient tradition of forest gardening that originated in South America around the banks of the Amazon. In Tanzania our local tribes – the Meru and the Chagga - have been doing similarly for 400 years.
We want to be at the forefront of reviving this cultural tradition which was forgotten under previous governments as they pushed towards agricultural monocultures.
Our aim is not only to re-introduce indigenous trees, cultivate crops and grow medicinal plants but to do this with our guests who can actively contribute to this project as they relax in our beautiful accommodation.
We are also promoting this project amongst our school children with vegetable gardens planted in our schools and in the grounds of our Kindervilla, with the help of Paulo Mollel, Environmental awareness is another lesson best taught early!
... to help women plant their own vegetable gardens so they can be self-sufficient in the future.
... not only at our schools, but also at other surrounding secondary schools.
